Catch the Game, Skip the Lines: San Francisco Giants Introduce AI-Powered Self-Checkout
In a bid to elevate the fan experience at Oracle Park, the San Francisco Giants have partnered with AI and computer vision company Mashgin to introduce a 'Grab & Go' self-checkout system for beverages and snacks.
The collaboration addresses the need for quicker and more convenient purchase options for spectators during game days.
"With MLB game times down over 15 per cent this year thanks to the new pitch clocks, fans don't have time to wait around in concession lines," explains Bill Schlough, the Giants' Chief Information Officer.
"With Mashgin technology powering our new Grab & Go stations, Giants fans will be able to get back to the action faster than ever before."
Mashgin's state-of-the-art technology employs computer vision and artificial intelligence to instantly identify and price a wide range of items, from alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages to ballpark snacks.
The touchless system eliminates the need for traditional barcodes or RFIDs, streamlining the checkout process and saving valuable time for fans.
The first Grab & Go stand has been strategically placed behind home plate on the Promenade Level, with an additional location on the View Level set to open soon.
By incorporating Mashgin's self-checkout solution, the San Francisco Giants are taking significant strides in reducing waiting times, allowing fans to spend less time queuing and more time immersed in the thrilling moments of the game.
