Innovative antibacterial coating systems from Crystal Display Solutions (CDS) are adding antibacterial protection to touchscreens amid growing concerns over hygiene.
The new coatings and films are suitable for OEMs and volume users of touchscreens and kiosks in sectors as diverse as hospitality and catering, retail, public transport, process control and gaming.
Tested to BS EN ISO 22196 (positive resistance against E-Coil ATCC 8739, MRSA NCTC 12493, Klebsiella Pnuemoniae ATCC 4352 and Streptococcus pyogenes ATCC 19615 at incubation periods of 30 minutes, 60 minutes and 24 hours), the company's formulations and self-apply coatings are being marketed as a cost-effective alternative to "air-touch" technologies which rely on sensors to detect hand or finger movement.
Testing against the SARS-CoV-2 (Covid) coronavirus has not yet been possible, however, despite scientific studies suggesting silver nanoparticles are effective against several type of viruses, and the company stresses its solutions should be considered only within the context of wider hygiene programmes.

The finished film thickness is a 0.12mm, inclusive of base silicone adhesive, PET layer and surface hard coat layer with silver nanoparticles.
