The Royal Borough of Greenwich has won two awards for its pioneering work in social housing safety and compliance.
The local authority's trailblazing work in overhauling its approach to tackling mould, damp and condensation received a ‘Best Response to Awaab’s Law’ at the Association of Safety and Compliance Professionals (ASCP) Awards 2025 in recognition of faster response time for residents through a new online and phone system, better use of targeted interventions to prioritise vulnerable residents, and the recruitment of a specialist team to lead the work. .
A spokesperson for the borough tells FM Magazine: “These awards reflect the scale and impact of the work we’ve done to improve our housing stock and ensure residents have a safe and secure home.”

The event, which celebrates stand out achievers in the social housing sector, also recognised the council's Head of Landlord Risk and Compliance, Susan Murray, who picked up an individual Women in Safety and Compliance award.

In just two and a half years, Sue has spearheaded and put in place robust processes, procedures, and policies for all six compliance areas - fire, gas, asbestos, water, electricity, and legionella.
Her exceptional leadership has resulted in a revitalised, high performing team that is focused on ensuring residents can be as safe as possible.
The spokesperson adds: “We’re rightly proud of Sue for setting a new standard for not only compliance professionals but particularly for women working in senior roles in the male-dominated compliance sector.
