Awqaf & Minor Affairs Foundation (AMAF) awards AED 25 Million tender to Al Arif Contracting and announces 2014 completion date.
The Awqaf & Minor Affairs Foundation (AMAF), which administers religious endowments on behalf of the Government of Dubai, has awarded Al Arif Contracting the tender for a new mosque that is to be situated behind Al Rowad village in Deira.
With capacity for 3,500 people, the 45,000 sq ft (4.180 m²) building will be Dubai's largest place of worship at its anticipated opening in May 2014.
The facility, which is located on a 105,000 sq ft (9,754 m²) site, will include a water recycling plant and feature state-of-the-art temperature control and energy management systems designed to reduce consumption by up to 18 per cent. It is being described as the UAE's first "eco-friendly" mosque and is expected to serve as a blueprint for the redevelopment of similar buildings across Dubai.
"With the global call for energy conservation, it is essential for developers to take responsibility for creating buildings that comply with green standards," said Tayeb Al Rais, AMAF's Secretary General.
The Emirate has recently published Green Building Regulations and Specifications which will become mandatory for private and government sector developments from the end of next year.
