Inspiring Leadership
Leading industry experts will share their knowledge, views and experiences on the theme of inspiring leadership when the conference takes place at the Radisson Blu Hotel & Spa, in Galway, on 10 June.
Minister of State for Business and Employment, Ged Nash TD, will be among guest speakers at the conference, which will also address diverse topics such as inspiring safety leadership in a global organisation and the effect of sleep apnoea on work.
Liam Howe, chair of IOSH Ireland Branch, said: "As safety and health practitioners we must, and do, constantly strive for higher standards of health and safety management.
"Employers require meaningful, professional and practical advice on risk management. The conference aims to meet the demands of both employers and practitioners."
Bruce Phillips, who headed up the conference organising committee, said: "This year's conference is about inspiring leadership in health and safety and how we can all work together to manage risk and prevent accidents at work."
The programme also includes two question and answer sessions chaired by Health and Safety Authority (HSA) CEO, Martin O'Halloran, and Moyagh Murdock, CEO of the Road Safety Authority.
The issue of occupational cancers will also be addressed by Professor John Cherrie of Heriot-Watt University and the Institute of Occupational Medicine.
IOSH is highlighting common causes of occupational cancer registrations and deaths, including solar radiation, diesel engine exhaust emissions, asbestos, silica dust and shift work, through its No Time to Lose campaign.
The Institution recently launched new research into the link between working outdoors and skin cancer, and how businesses can take preventative action to protect their employees.
Liam said: "Ensuring adequate and appropriate protection against the sun is a must for anyone working outdoors. The reality is, however, that many workers are being diagnosed with skin cancer as a direct result of working outside unprotected from the sun's UV rays."
The conference is aimed at both IOSH members and non-members and those who have safety and health leadership responsibilities.
