Guardian newspaper investigation alleges historic 'facilitation payments' made by Compass Group's Kazakh subsidiary.
An investigation by The Guardian has resulted in allegations the Kazakh subsidiary of the Compass Group made "facilitation payments" to customs officials in the Central Asian country over a period of time ending in 2011.
The newspaper claims internal emails confirm payments were made to an employee who was named by former Kazakh ESS Support Services director, Karim Pabaniina, as a recipient of "cash advances to make bribes to government officials" in a tribunal statement.
A Code of Business Conduct prohibiting employees from engaging in activities that contravene the United Kingdom's Bribery Act of 2010 was being introduced by the Group at this time, and the newspaper suggests payments were queried.
