Fatality at Site of New Everton Stadium
A construction worker on the site of Everton Football Club's new Bramley-Moore Dock stadium has lost his life prompting statements of condolence from the English Premier League side and contractor Laing O'Rourke.
Everton's statement reads: "Everyone at Everton Football Club is deeply saddened by the news of a male worker's passing following an incident at the Everton Stadium site at Bramley-Moore Dock.
Our thoughts and condolences go out to his family, friends, and colleagues during this incredibly difficult time."
Laing O'Rourke confirmed the tragic event by issuing its own statement which reveals the worker sustained serious injuries during activities conducted by a subcontractor.
Despite prompt medical attention, his injuries proved fatal.
Following the incident, all construction work at the site has been suspended as Merseyside Police and the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) initiate investigations into the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
A spokesperson for Laing O'Rourke said the company will cooperate with the investigations fully, adding: "We are shocked and saddened by today's tragic incident, and our hearts go out to the family, friends, and colleagues of the deceased man as well as our broader project team.
The incident serves as a poignant reminder of the risks inherent in the construction industry, underscoring the critical importance of maintaining safe work environments.
