East and North Hertfordshire Teaching NHS Trust has awarded the contract for an entrance extension to the 566-bed Lister district general hospital in Stevenage to Compass Group business One Retail and noviniti.
The Lister serves much of Hertfordshire and south Bedfordshire with a full range of medical and surgical specialties.
The project is due to start this autumn and will be completed in the autumn of 2026, with the improvements creating a better experience for patients and visitors.
New shops and facilities will transform the existing entrance into a modern, welcoming, accessible and sustainable space.
New retail offerings will include a Costa Coffee, Co-op and Stock Shop, with Compass adding a second Peabodys coffee shop to offer artisan coffee and its range of hot beverages in addition to the existing offering from the sister shop of fresh hot food including pasta, pizzas and paninis.
A 24/7 Smart Market is being introduced and will stock Co-op products with food for now and food for later.
Costa Coffee will offer its high street favourites, as well as introducing self-service kiosks and introduce a loyalty app.
