CIFF Shanghai: End-of-Term Reflections on a Year of Design, Innovation and Global Engagement
The world's largest furniture exhibition and FM Magazine partner event CIFF Shanghai 2025 celebrated a decade since its relocation to Hongqiao with a confident display of design maturity and international reach.
Across 300,000 square metres, the exhibition united global brands, designers and manufacturers in exploring how creativity, technology and craftsmanship continue to shape the evolution of modern living and intelligent manufacturing.
The 56th China International Furniture Fair (CIFF Shanghai) concluded on 12 September at the National Exhibition and Convention Center in Hongqiao, marking another successful milestone in the evolution of one of Asia’s most influential gatherings for the global furniture and interiors industry.
Occupying 300,000 square metres, this year’s edition brought together more than 1,500 Chinese and international exhibitors and attracted 92,709 professional visitors, of whom 11,873 travelled from overseas.
The resulting 13.23 per cent increase in international attendance reflected CIFF’s continued ascent as a meeting point for design and production, commerce and creativity.
The event once again demonstrated China’s expanding role in global design culture and in the modernisation of the furniture supply chain.
A Broader Perspective on Home and Lifestyle Design
Under the guiding theme “Design Crossing Boundaries,” CIFF Shanghai 2025 presented a comprehensive panorama of innovation through six parallel exhibitions:
Together, these encompassed eight major product categories ranging from living and sleeping systems to office and outdoor furniture, home accessories and manufacturing technology—each revealing how design thinking is reshaping modern lifestyles.
A focal point of the fair was the debut of the New Retail Pavilion, which illustrated the integration of design, technology and retail infrastructure within a single, coherent environment.
Over 1,000 new products were introduced during the four-day event—90 per cent of them world premieres—reflecting both the diversity and dynamism of the sector.
The inclusion of 15 independent design studios alongside established brands injected fresh creative energy, broadening the conversation around form, function and sustainability.
International Exchange and Industry Progress
CIFF Shanghai continued to expand its reputation as a place where practical cooperation takes shape.
Manufacturers, designers, distributors and buyers from across Asia, Europe and the Americas met to review new materials, technologies and consumer trends.
Leading companies—including HC28 Maison, Camerich, Coomo, Carbine and Kuka Home—used the occasion to introduce collections developed with internationally recognised designers, reflecting the sector’s gradual move toward global design integration.
Structured business development sessions across categories such as office, outdoor, dining and upholstered furniture enabled direct introductions between visiting professionals and more than a hundred suppliers.
These sessions encouraged long-term dialogue and underscored CIFF Shanghai’s value as both a commercial meeting ground and a forum for sustained international engagement.
Design Dialogues: Ideas, Culture and Experimentation
Beyond its commercial dimension, CIFF Shanghai 2025 expanded its cultural and intellectual reach through nearly 40 curated forums and exhibitions, organised under three key directions:
Design Eden – Special Curation
The Italian Lounge, East Design Show, Hotline Designers Joint Show, Imagine & Contemporary Design Life, Design Gravity, Limited IN, Coomo International Soft Furnishings Area, DDS × LT Live, Nomadic Store (re:store).
Design Industry – Special Curation
Grand Tea Gala, 2025 China Sleep Industry Summit & Sleep Technology Exhibition, Jintang Prize Winning Design Works Showcase, Design Face+ Theme Exhibition.
Office Space – Special Curation
Shanghai Office Space Theme Pavilion, Fashion Office Carnival “Multiple Ways of Collaborative Work”, Commercial Space Salon Exhibition.
These initiatives combined research, exhibition and dialogue to explore the cultural foundations of design while encouraging experimental approaches to materials, sustainability and user experience.
Recognising Excellence
A defining moment of the fair was the launch of the Golden Creation Award, introduced with the aim of “Defining Design Value and Advancing China’s Intelligent Manufacturing.” The award’s rigorous evaluation framework identified benchmark products and practices that embody innovation, craftsmanship and technical precision.

A Decade in Hongqiao: Consolidation and Outlook
Since its relocation to Shanghai Hongqiao in 2015, CIFF’s autumn edition has consistently served as a reference point for China’s outward-looking design economy.
The 2025 edition confirmed that trajectory—demonstrating a maturing balance between domestic capability and international collaboration.
Looking ahead, CIFF Shanghai is expected to continue refining its structure and global reach, promoting the interconnection of design, production and cultural value.
Its ambition remains clear: to share the creativity, quality and manufacturing expertise of contemporary Chinese furniture with an international audience, and to contribute to the ongoing evolution of design worldwide.
