Comment: CrowdStrike-Microsoft Outage Shows Cash Remains Vital to Society - GMB

The UK's GMB Union comments on the routine update of CrowdStrike's widely used cybersecurity software that caused computer systems to crash globally on Friday.

Friday's global IT outage left shoppers across the UK unable to make card payments and shows that cash is still a vital part of society.

Eamon O’Hearn, GMB National Officer, says: “The outage reinforces what GMB has been saying for years - cash is a vital part of how our communities operate.

The outage reinforces the need for a new conversation at a local, national and international level about how we keep cash in our society.

“When you take cash out of the system, it means people have nothing to fall back on, impacting on how they do the everyday basics - even buying food.
