Residents and businesses who dump in Haringey could now face fines of up to £1000 as the council intensifies its efforts to combat waste dumping after calls from the community for tougher action.
The 150 per cent rise in higher-rate penalties serves as a stark deterrent, highlighting the council’s commitment to ensuring a clean and safe environment for all residents.
Last year over 8,000 residents and businesses took part in the council’s waste survey. 96% of participants agreed that fines should be imposed for fly-tipping, while 94% supported similar penalties for dog fouling and littering.
Littering will also attract a maximum fine of £500 - an increase of more than 230 per cent.
While the majority of residents, landlords, and businesses strive to keep our borough clean, the increase in fines will enable the council to take stronger action against those who commit this serious offence and negatively impact the community.
The tougher sanctions address the growing problem of illegal waste disposal.
Every month thousands of residents use our bulky waste collection service or visit the Recycling and Reuse Centre in Wood Green to dispose of their waste.
Residents are sick and tired of seeing waste dumped around our lovely borough and strongly support tougher action.
Haringey’s Enforcement Team regularly patrols the borough and conduct duty of care visits to local businesses.
They also investigate reports from residents who provide evidence of dumping in their neighbourhoods.
