A new report from the National Audit Office (NAO) concludes the UK's Shared Services Strategy is unlikely to realise its full potential across government.
Targeting savings of 1 billion, the shared services project was introduced to consolidate 'back office' functions including human resources and payroll under a single service across government with the aim of achieving cost reductions - and the additional aim of generating data to support better decision-making.
However, according to the NAO, delays and uncertainty are hampering progress, as a result of difficulties in integrating IT systems and overall governance.
