Dubai Municipality and Dubai Health Authority announce environmental awareness events

Series of activities to echo World Environment Day (WED) 2013 themes.

Following World Environmental Day (WED) 2013 which was commemorated on 5 June, Dubai Municipality (DM)and Dubai Health Authority (DHA) have unveiled plans for a series of events to raise public awareness of environmental issues.

Under the initiative which is being organised with assistance from Dubai-based Aryan Global Group, workshops, exhibitions of local plant-life, competitions and interactive demonstrations on calculating carbon footprints, are to be held across the Emirate.

Although many of the planned activities will be directed at school-age children, a "Being an Eco-friendly Employee" workshop is being organised to educate office-based workers about practical measures which they can take to reduce waste and conserve energy.

Events on 13 June (the final day of activities) will be held under the banner, "Think-Eat-Save": a mantra of WED campaigners which was also echoed by DM Environment Department Director, Hamdan Al-Shaer during his WED address in Dubai, and refers to resource savings that can be achieved from reducing food wastage.
