New Leadership Team at BIFM
The British Institute of Facilities Management (BIFM) today announced that its Board of Directors has asked current Chief Operating Officer, James Sutton, to fulfil the role of Chief Executive Officer (CEO) following the resignation of Gareth Tancred. John Coke is also appointed as the organisation's new Finance Director and Company Secretary. Linda Hausmanis continues in her role as Director of Education.
James Sutton joined BIFM in 2013 and took up his current role in October 2013. He has an outstanding track record of working for professional bodies and was previously at The Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) for ten years, most recently as its Acting Chief Executive and Director of Strategic Development.
Gareth Tancred had been CEO of BIFM since February 2012 having previously served as its Chief Operating Officer. After six years with the organisation Tancred is leaving to pursue other opportunities.
Speaking about the changes, BIFM Chairman Julie Kortens said: "We would like to thank Gareth for the contribution he has made during his time with BIFM, both to the organisation and the profession as a whole. Under Gareth's leadership BIFM has been transformed into a highly respected and successful professional body on the world stage. Membership has increased very significantly across the globe and our industry-leading-qualifications are now being delivered by universities, training schools and industry internationally.
"Looking to the future, we are delighted that James Sutton has accepted the Board's request to fulfil the role and become our next CEO. We believe he is the right person to take us forward in the next stage of our development. Not only does James have extensive knowledge in working for professional bodies through previous senior positions, he has been instrumental in the development and delivery of BIFM's long-term strategy."
James Sutton comments: "I look forward to working closely with our board of directors, executive team, all of our employees and our volunteer community to achieve our strategic goals; to continue to represent and develop the FM profession with support for every career stage as well as championing the value and benefits of FM to business, the economy and wider society," said Sutton.
Speaking of his departure, Gareth Tancred said: "It has been a privilege to serve as CEO of BIFM for the last three years. While I have decided to start a new chapter in my career, I leave BIFM with many great memories of the time I spent working with the staff, volunteers, members, industry, government, stakeholders and people across the global facilities management and built environment sectors."
