MP Welcomes Carillion Apprentices at King’s Cross

Richard Harrington MP, Advisor to the Prime Minister on Apprenticeships, met 25 new carpentry apprentices during a visit to Carillion's King's Cross training centre.

The new recruits, aged between 16 and 18, are beginning their training which will see them learn valuable carpentry skills and gain experience on construction projects.

Carillion is the largest and most experienced private provider of construction training in the UK, recruiting 1,000 apprentices each year. Apprentices from the King's Cross centre have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience at some of the work Carillion is carrying out as part of the massive King's Cross redevelopment programme.

Mr. Harrington was visiting the centre as part of a fact-finding visit, during which he spoke to Ray Wilson, Carillion's director of training services.

Mr Harrington said: "I congratulate those 25 young people who are in the process of completing their first week in work. I have always been a strong supporter of apprenticeships. It is crucial that we continue to support the growth of high quality apprenticeships across the country. I welcome the work Carillion has done at King's Cross to make this possible. The apprentices I have met today have shown great enthusiasm in their new apprenticeship courses and I wish them the best of luck in their future careers."

Mohamed Hassan, centre manager at the training centre said: "It is great to see the workshop buzzing with new young learners all enthusiastic about getting stuck in. My team and I look forward to us being able to guide them on their learning journey with Carillion Training Services and to develop them into talented, skilled carpenters supporting the London construction sector."

The training centre currently has a total of 96 apprentices and this is set to increase during the next intake in September.

The facility offers apprenticeships in general construction, ground works, carpentry and joinery, plastering and dry lining.
