Sharing Skills for A Worthwhile Cause
As one of the UK's largest painting and decorating companies, the Ian Williams team has a lot of skill and expertise they're happy to share when it comes to making a positive impact on the communities in which they work. This is exactly what they did just recently with the donation of materials and a week's worth of Ian Williams' apprentice painter Joshua Reid's time, to help spruce up the offices of Sutton based Charity MAPS. It's particularly timely as we approach National Apprentice Week 2017.
MAPS is an award-winning, early intervention project providing mentoring and advocacy support to the borough of Sutton's most vulnerable children and young people. It's part of Volunteer Centre Sutton which has over 50 years' expertise in helping local people find positive volunteering opportunities. MAPS volunteers support young people who are facing a range of complex difficulties, including low self-esteem, challenging family circumstances, abuse, bullying and bereavement. The organisation provides them with a safe space to come to life, and we were delighted to be able to make this safe space a more welcoming space by refurbishing the entry hall and main staircase.
VCS Deputy CEO Emily Hodge commented: "I'd like to say a humungous 'Thank You' for all you did to revamp our entrance hallway and staircase at Volunteer Centre Sutton (VCS). From arranging for the paint to be supplied, to organising a fantastic apprentice to spend 4 days with us was incredible. He worked his socks off! It makes such a huge difference to have fresh paint on the walls as we welcome members of the public and other professionals into our building daily. Staff have also commented on how lovely it is to have some modernisation around here!"
Chris Foster added: "This was an extremely kind gesture which we would certainly not have had the means to do ourselves. I would like to especially express our gratitude to Josh, who we all thought was accommodating, pleasant, tidy and generally a lovely young man. Josh supplied us with a beautiful job and completed it a day earlier than planned. It looks totally transformed and I think Josh did your company proud. We would not hesitate to recommend Ian Williams to anyone else."
