One Year to Go
3M, the science-based technology company, is offering to help UK organisations understand the implications of visual privacy requirements, ahead of the introduction of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), which comes into effect on 25 May 2018.
According to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), the UK Government has announced that the UK's exit from the European Union will not affect the commencement of the GDPR.
Like the UK Data Protection Act (1998), the GDPR applies to 'personal data', but its definition is more detailed.
Says Peter Barker, EMEA Market Development Manager, 3M:
"We are seeing a general trend towards stricter regulations around personal data protection and security in general.
"We can certainly help UK organisations understand the implications of one particular aspect: the prevention of 'visual hacking' - in other words, people being able to either deliberately or inadvertently see information on someone's screen - be that a desktop monitor, a laptop, tablet or smartphone - and then use that data for illegal or malicious purposes."
