Supporting Breast Cancer Research

Employees at Sulzer have been supporting breast cancer research after Lisa Neath, Executive PA to Head of Electro Mechanical Services - EMEA, decided to increase awareness and help raise money for research into the most common form of cancer in the UK.

Service centers across the country held their own fundraising events and many employees went to work wearing pink.

'Wear It Pink Day' took place on October 20th as part of breast cancer awareness month and since 2002 the event has raised over £30 million, making it one of the UK's biggest fundraising events. Lisa encouraged staff at service centers across the country to wear pink for the day, hold raffles and sell cakes at work as part of the fundraising.

Lisa was diagnosed in 2015 with breast cancer, but fortunately it was caught early and she wanted to support the Breast Cancer Now charity in order to help with the scientific research to save the lives of other cancer suffers. Staff at the Birmingham site were keen to raise money for the charity and Lisa encouraged all of the company's service centers to take part in the 'Wear It Pink Day'

Lisa commented: "It was really good to bring together people in the service centers across the country for such a worthy cause. Everyone has been very generous and we have managed to raise £1,500, which has been a great achievement.

"The atmosphere at the service centers has been great. We have received some fantastic prizes from our suppliers that have been used in raffles to raise more money, all of which will go to this excellent cause. However, the most important message is that if you catch it early, cancer can be beaten; so much can be done, and the chances of survival are really good."

During the run-up to the event Lisa received several calls from others within the company that had gone through similar situations and the hope is that this fundraising can become an annual event across the company.
