Reviewing Security to Achieve Compliance
The introduction of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) in May 2018 led to the Building Manager at One Central Square, John Lambert, to contact Evolution, an integrated fire and security provider, to discuss the current regulatory and compliance framework. He wanted to put in place site security system policies and procedures that were relevant, up-to-date and most importantly, fully compliant.
Evolution's holistic approach to security and detailed process began with a Security Risk Assessment and CCTV Privacy Impact Assessment on the site. This was to help PIM understand and create the necessary policies and procedures to meet its obligations regarding current legislation including GDPR, Employment Law and aligned to the requirements of the Surveillance Camera Commissioners Code of Practice.
John says that Evolution's expertise made the process simple and efficient: "Once we agreed what was required, the Evolution Risk and Design team spent two days at One Central Square where they systematically probed the whys and wherefores of our security systems. In doing so they were able to provide comprehensive and robust policies and procedures that meet our compliance obligations, as well as providing transparency and assistance to our clients in meeting their requirements.
"Following the initial interview and assessment stage, Evolution created and implemented all documentation and procedures within two weeks. We found the Evolution team to be extremely knowledgeable, helpful and responsive. The new systems in place have made things simpler, more straightforward and more secure for us and our tenants."
Evolution has worked with PIM since 2016, when it was selected to maintain their IP CCTV and Access Control systems at One Central Square. PIM has continued to develop the security profile of the site through the addition of further CCTV cameras and Access Control doors.
Brendan McGarrity, Evolution's Head of Risk and Design says the company's approach meant the project could be completed ahead of schedule and to budget: "Risk and Design Services, together with technical advice, project management, and training, provide our clients with a comprehensive pathway for improving building and asset security in compliant, innovative and cost-effective ways."
