Interserve, the international support services and construction group, has been honoured for its success in embedding sustainability into its corporate strategy and the leadership shown by its Group-wide sustainability plan - SustainAbilities - at the recent PLC Awards.
The company was presented with the Achievement in Sustainability award in recognition of the contribution made to society through the creation of local employment opportunities; investing in skills through training and careers programmes; the promotion of sustainable innovation; its commitment to responsible sourcing and the progress it has made in cutting waste and carbon emissions.
Launched in 2013, SustainAbilities is a comprehensive, business-wide sustainability plan, which sets out 48 ambitious targets phased between 2014 and 2020. The plan helps Interserve manage risk in its operations and to increase opportunities for profitable growth now and in the future.
Tim Haywood, Interserve's Group Finance Director and Head of Sustainability, said:
"It has been three years since SustainAbilities - our broad-based growth plan - was launched. Today, it shapes every aspect of how we operate and helps us demonstrate that we are an organisation that values more than just money. We're grateful for the opportunity provided by the PLC Awards to celebrate and showcase what good business looks like. It is also an opportunity to recognise the effort and enthusiasm all of our people have put into making our journey to a truly sustainable future a reality."
Interserve met or exceeded its initial set of 2014 SustainAbilities targets in areas such as sustainable procurement, provision of school work placements, local employment rates, and more. The company will publish its latest SustainAbilities progress report during the second quarter of 2016.
The PLC Awards, sponsored by PwC and the London Stock Exchange are in their 30th year and recognise the successes and achievements of publicly quoted companies in the UK.
