The latest annual membership survey from the Chartered Association of Business Schools (CABS) provides clear evidence UK business schools are continuing to adapt on-campus provision to meet changing expectations following the Pandemic.

Staff
Almost three quarters (74%) of UK business schools reported that their office occupancy rates were above 50% before the Covid-19 pandemic.
In 2023 only 30% reported an office occupancy rate above 50%.
Almost half (45%) of UK business schools operate on the basis of either shared or open plan offices, but 6% still primarily operate on the basis of single occupancy offices.
Classes
Prior to the Covid-19 pandemic, 95% of business schools reported a 50% building occupancy rate or above for student attendance in campus taught sessions.
In 2023 just 66% of business schools reported the same.
Student communal areas
82% of business schools stated that average occupancy for students’ communal areas was more than 50% before the pandemic compared to 73% today.
